INTRODUCTION

Music That Retrains the Nervous System

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a powerful, evidence-based listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system, so your child can better connect with themselves, others, and the world around them.

The SSP uses music filtered through a patented algorithm that highlights sound frequencies similar to the human voice.

As your child listens, these highlighted frequencies send cues of safety to their nervous system, building the foundation for awareness, embodiment, and resilience.

HOW IT WORKS

Evidence-based listening designed to support regulation

1

The Protocol

Five hours of filtered music, sequenced and broken down into manageable sessions according to your child's needs.

2

The Mechanism

The music stimulates the vagus nerve and middle ear muscles, retraining the nervous system to prioritize cues of safety.

3

The Outcome

Your child’s nervous system is primed to co-regulate and engage with the world around them.

THE BENEFITS

The Benefits of Nervous System Regulation

When our nervous system is regulated, we have increased capacity for awareness, embodiment, and resilience.

😌

Building Resilience

A regulated nervous system supports one’s ability to sleep, eat, concentrate, communicate, and engage meaningfully. This leads to increased capacity to navigate challenges and re-regulate with support.

🌊

Increased Interoceptive Awareness

Your child will become more attuned to their emotional world, moving through dysregulation with a more solid foundation.

🤝

Authentic Connection

When the body feels safe, we feel more at ease connecting with others and building meaningful relationships.

🧠

Support for the Learning Process

Regulation supports higher-level cognitive functions, creating space for deeper focus, creative problem-solving, and more confidence to engage in learning environments.

OUR APPROACH

The SSP at Blume: An Affirming Experience

At Blume, we implement the Safe & Sound Protocol using a neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-responsive approach.

What that looks like in practice:

We set up the environment for sensory safety.
Every listening session is designed with your child's unique sensory profile in mind.

Unyte-2.jpg

We establish connection first.

A strong base of co-regulation and trust is built before listening begins.

We attune closely to nervous system cues.

Your child’s provider will monitor your child throughout every session and adjust the plan accordingly.

We respect autonomy.

We offer the SSP with consent, choice, and flexibility. Your child can opt out of a listening session at any point and for any reason, no questions asked.

We collaborate with your child.

Goals are set in partnership with your child, honoring what meaningful participation looks like for them.

We focus on regulation, not behavior.

Rather than trying to change who your child is, we work with their nervous system — not against it — to reduce overwhelm and support access to safety and connection.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The SSP Experience

Every experience with the Safe & Sound Protocol is individualized. Here is what the journey looks like for you and your chid.

Your Child's Role

Your child's provider will guide them through each listening session, attuning to their regulation needs and providing support as needed. The provider will collaborate with your child to help them notice and name feelings or sensations — emotional or physical — that may arise during listening.

Your child may also engage in regulating activities during sessions: gentle stretches, breathing exercises, movement, drawing, or coloring.

Your Provider's Role

Your certified provider will assess your child's readiness for the program, recommend an individualized listening plan, and provide education to prepare you and your child for what to expect.

During the listening process, they will monitor progress and ensure the program is completed at a pace that respects your child's unique needs.

Your Role as a Caregiver

As a caregiver, you may serve as a listening guide for your child during at-home listening sessions. Your provider will give you specific guidance on what activities to do and how to support your child. Staying in close communication with your provider ensures the plan stays well-suited to your family.
